Our Vision
The natural water and land areas of Grosse Ile will be preserved in perpetuity.

Our Mission

To promote for public benefit the preservation, stewardship and understanding of the natural resources in the Township of Grosse Ile and the surrounding area.

Preserve the Land

Beginning with acquisition of land and conservation easements and continuing with sound stewardship practices, Grosse Ile Nature and Land Conservancy is committed to protecting the wildlife habitat, wetlands and scenic views entrusted to our care for enjoyment by future generations.

Education

We develop and conduct environmental education describing the natural world found in the lower Detroit River region. Our Science-based programs include basic wildlife and ecology studies, best practices for home owners, and conservation and recycling.

Stewardship

We are committed to uphold our mission of land protection by ensuring sound management of all land parcels and conservation easements for which we are responsible.

Who we are

We are an independent, 501C3, non-profit organization incorporated under the Michigan Department of Commerce and with no affiliation or obligation to any other organization. We were formed in 1993 and are governed by an unpaid Board of Directors elected by our membership at our annual meeting.

We are the only private organization in the Township of Grosse Ile that can legally protect property either by direct ownership of land or by holding conservation easements on it. In turn, we are obligated to manage our properties with the best land management practices that are balanced by public benefit.
